If you buy it secondhand or use someone else’s, you never know what that car seat has been through – was it well taken care of? How often did someone clean it? What is the expiration date? Even if the car seat is yours, sitting in storage can take a toll on it.

If you are going to use an old car seat, you have to know if it has ever been in a crash – whether it was being used or not. It doesn’t matter if there isn’t any visible damage, a crash creates a lot of torque, pulling, and warping that the car seat may not have been tested in, and it could reduce the ability to protect the child.

There are certain recommendations when it comes to upgrading or switching to a new car seat. Crash test comparison in terms of safety when kids ride in the car resulted into newly recommended standards and regulations to comply with as per consumer reports. This particular recommendation which has recently has been released have to do with parents having to purchase or switch over to a new car seat even sooner than they expected.

The recent modification that parents and guardians need to comply with is more about moving the child from its usual infant car seat to its upgraded version or a convertible car seat instead. These two seats differ from each other and have their own functionalities to offer at a certain stage to keep the child safe from harm when traveling in a vehicle. The infant seat can easily be installed and removed from the car seat as it also functions as a carrier for your young baby. On the other hand, the convertible one is more bulky which makes it more difficult to detach from the car once it is installed.

There is nothing more worth it than being able to keep your children safe from harm when riding a car. To make sure that children will have less chances of getting injured due to any particular car accident, the load leg is now being introduced in the U.S. market which promotes additional 46 percentage of safety measure for children riding cars.

Consumer Reports, a non-profit organization providing people added information through reviews and ratings, claims that through attaching a load leg to the base of a child’s car seat, the child gets 50 percent more added protection from potential vehicular accidents. There were tests conducted regarding this for about 32 car seats made for children where four of them have the load leg attached to the seat. Those four which includes this innovative car safety add on were able to get the highest rating of “Best” throughout the testing.

Although this type of car seat add on technology has already been popular in Europe, it is now being introduced in the U.S. to promote additional safety measures when driving with children. Knowing that this technology has been tested, it is absolutely capable of keeping the child passenger safe while traveling in a car. Since the load leg connects to the base of the car seat, this will reduce any form of impact that may occur on any particular collision that may affect the child.

There are a few options that you may look into such as Nuna Pipa, GB Asana 35 DLX, Cybex Aton Q and Cybex Aton 2, it’s not a cheap infant car seats… However, as per Consumer Reports those cars which have a large hump on the floor area of their car may not be able to have a load leg installed. You will have to check the manuals to makes sure that this car seat add on technology will work for you.

Nowadays, fastening children into a car seat to promote safety is very essential. However, there are instances where parents would intend to add more protection for the kids such as a huge winter jackets especially in cold seasons. The question is, if this is safe for your kids?

Being secured in a car by strapping kids on car seats is definitely going to keep your children safe from any possible accidents that may come your way while driving your car. The only challenge is that if you add huge jackets before putting on the straps of the car seat, this may impose more danger to the children. This is why it is not recommended for parents to have their children wear huge winter clothing when they are in a car seat.

As 2017 is soon approaching, there are new car seat laws that people should consider, especially ones which have to do with the safety of children when riding cars. First thing next year, children under the age of two will have to be properly buckled-up on a car seat facing the rear side an exception will be given to child weighing above 40 pounds or the child is more than 40 inches tall.

Those kids who are 8 years old and older, as well as those who are at 4 feet 9 inches or ones taller than the mentioned height will have to be buckled up with a seat belt or will need to be seated on a booster seat if they were to ride a car.
